EURIE 2017– Conference Program

With the approaching deadline for EURIE 2017 Summit, we would like to highlight its Conference Program´s interactive Roundtable Sessions. “Developing International Student Services and Support” roundtable will be moderated by Dr. Samil Erdogan from Istanbul Bilgi University. Second roundtable “Implementing International Internship” will be conducted by Zeynep Tugce Ciftcibasi Guc from Abdullah Gul University. The last interactive roundtable “Engaging International Alumni” will offer a valuable information from the hand of Nuffic Neso Turkey Director – Yavuz Yilmazoglu. These sessions requires a preregistration and thus we suggest you to register at your earliest convenience.


EURIE 2017 Mobile Application

EURIE - Eurasian Higher Education Summit will be launching the EURIE Mobile Application, available at Apple App Store and Google Play. The EURIE Mobile Application will allow you to view the EURIE Conference Program and its sessions, to create your own agenda and schedule appointments. You will be able to search for profiles of all of EURIE 2017 participants and to use the major features of the application overall. You can also customize your profile to provide proper information about you and your institution and interests.


Stakeholder Meeting at the University of Porto

On Friday 17 March 2017 the Erasmus without Paper Project (EWP) is organizing the Stakeholder Meeting at the University of Porto to which they invite external stakeholders and representatives of HEIs (student administrators, International Relations Officers, IT specialists), University network representatives, public and commercial mobility module software developers and consortia, representatives of National Agencies and Ministries of Education, National student data repositories and other stakeholders with an interest in the work of the EWP Network and its future implementation. read more


EMUNI hosted a meeting of MEDSALT project

Between 21 and 23 February, EMUNI hosted a workshop of the project MEDSALT, which is coordinated by an EMUNI member Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale (OGS). MEDSALT project aims to create a new flexible scientific network that will address the causes, timing, emplacement mechanisms, and consequences at local and planetary scale of the largest and most recent 'salt giant' on Earth: The late Miocene (Messinian) salt layer in the Mediterranean basin. This inter-sectorial and multinational cooperation network will comprised a critical mass of both experienced and early-career researchers from Europe and beyond. The goal will be achieved through capacity building, researchers’ mobility, skills development, knowledge exchange and scientific networking. read more


Australian universities experience the highest number of international students

According to Australian Department of Education and Training, in 2016, their higher education institutions occurred a surge in international students’ number, up to 554,179 from nearly 200 countries. The Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham said: “With record student numbers and record student satisfaction, 2016 was a ‘gangbuster’ year for international education in Australia and the vital role it plays in national economic and social prosperity.”

The reputation of Australian qualifications, the reputation of the Australian education system as a whole and personal safety and security were the three major factors that attract international students in their decisions. Minister Birmingham added that “Australia’s international education system continues to be at the forefront of our transition from an economy built on the success of the mining and construction boom to an economy based on knowledge, services and innovation”. read more


Free Higher Education in Philippines pushed

Following the realignment of P8.3 billion in the proposed 2017 budget to remove tuition in state universities and colleges (SUCs) next year, education advocates called on the government to ensure that the policy would be institutionalized and implemented in succeeding years. Advocate Sarah Elago pushed for the passage of a comprehensive Free Public Education Law to remove the burden of paying tuition and other fees from the students and their families. Senator Sherwin Gatchalian – the author of the proposed Free Higher Education Act in the Senate – lauded the realignment of the P8.3 billion, saying 1.4 million students would benefit from the move. He called on his colleagues to support the passage of his proposed measure to institutionalize the gains made by the allocation in 2017 budget. Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chair Patricia Licuanan said they were currently coordinating with other agencies to craft the implementing rules on how to operationalize the P8.3-billion allocation. read more

This week we would like to introduce our member university – Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU), located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It is dedicated to S. D. Asfendiyarov who was the first rector when the university was established in 1931 and currently, KazNMU is the leader medical institute in the country. There are more than 11.000 students, PhD students study at KazNMU, and there are more than 1500 faculty members working at KazNMU, including more than 200 doctors of science, 130 professors, more than 500 candidates of science and 15-laureates of State prizes. University consists of 76 departments and 7 courses at 6 faculties (therapeutic, pediatric, public health, management in public health and pharmacy, general medicine, professional training and 2 faculties (pharmaceutical and stomatology) departments were transformed into modules - pharmaceutical faculty: 5 modules, stomatology: 9 modules.
